Scotts BBQ is a new family restaurant that opened April 8,2006 at
637-A Northland Blvd. in Forest Park, Ohio in the North Point Plaza.
Even though this restaurant is a new endeavor for the Scott
Family, BBQ, good homemade food and delicious sauce has been in the
Scott family for many generations.
Our great grandfather, Pa Pa Braden ran a BBQ pit and sold BBQ for
many years. He passed his legacy onto his daughter, our grandmother,
Gladys Lewis, who operated a BBQ pit as well. The legacy was further
passed onto our mother, Janet Scott, who made the delicious BBQ
sauce as a well-prepared delicious food for her family. About seven
years ago, this legacy was passed onto Robert Scott, known as "BigBob",
who began making this delicious BBQ sauce for his co-workers. The
sauce went over so well that he got together with his youngest
brother, Larry Scott, to have the sauce manufactured.
Our
sauce ended up in some Krogers', Lo Bills', Biggs' and IGA food
stores. In order to promote the sauce, Bob, Larry and some other
family members and friends began doing demonstrations by handing out
samples inside some of the stores. A George Foreman Grill was used
with little smokies and chicken breasts dipped in the sauce for
consumers to taste.
Robert decided to take it to the next level and let the consumers
taste the sauce on real barbeque straight off the BBQ grill. He
started with two barrel BBQ grills serving on the sidewalk of
Woodlawn Krogers stores during the weekends. We began moving to the
different Krogers stores every weekend to better promote the sauce.
This became so popular with our consumers that it was necessary to
increase from two grills to four grills. We then moved to the
parking lots of Krogers. A mobile food unit was purchased to enable
us to better sell side items like macaroni & cheese, green beans,
baked beans,7-up cake and peach cobbler. Our sister, Joyce Lewis,
prepared our side items and cobblers, which became a "big hit" along
with the BBQ. As the word got around about our sauce and BBQ ribs,
chicken, and briskets, we developed a strong customer base drawing
clientele from all over Cincinnati, as well as Indiana and Kentucky.
We participated in the Mojo On the Levee, the Black Family
Reunion Celebration and many other festivals and cookouts. In
addition, we were asked to be the only vendor at the grand opening
ceremonies of the Underground Railroad Museum. Due to the demand for
our delicious food and sauce, we could no longer adequately service
the wishes of clientele using our current set-up.
Consequently, we were delighted that we were compelled to take
our operation to the next level. Larry Scott began to look for a
permanent site to further serve our customers, and was blessed to
secure a location in Forest Park, Ohio.
Today the legacy continues through the Scott family with Scott's
BBQ Restaurant, a full-service restaurant where we feature charcoal
prepared BBQ featuring Big Bob's BBQ Sauce. Homemade side items,
such as collard greens, sweet potatoes, macaroni & cheese, potato
salad, coleslaw, baked beans, cornbread, just to name a few. Our
home made dessert include peachcobbler,7-upcake, chocolate cake,
caramel cake, chest pie, sweet potato pie, pecan pie, apple crisp
pie, and more. Our meats are never smoked, or soaked, just well
seasoned and cooked using the backyard-style grilling with charcoal.
